The Apprenticeship Contract is an employment contract for young people ages 15 to 25 years old.
The apprenticeship contract can be of either a limited period or an undetermined one, signed between the apprentice and the company hosting the apprentice.
The length of the apprenticeship contract or the period of the apprenticeship is equal to the duration of a program cycle.
The Apprenticeship Contract is a employment contract between an apprentice and an employer. The apprentice works for the employer and is paid a salary for that work. The apprentice must follow the French Labour Code’s rules and collective agreements. The company’s employee benefits are accessible to the apprentice as well as particular benefits for young workers. The contract must include training in a company as well as an academic component in an apprenticeship centre/university.
The trainee has the right to legal vacation days to be taken during his work hours.
The apprentice has to declare his change of status (from student to apprentice) to the Social Security department by downloading the adequate document from the website: ameli.fr. The apprentice then has to go to the Social Security Centre attached to his home address with the apprenticeship contract signed, his/her first pay slip and the Social Security document.
The apprentice must be present at the university/apprenticeship centre’s classes as it is considered a part of his/her work hours.
The apprentice is permitted to take five days during the apprenticeship contract to study for exams (in addition to the vacation time). These additional days will be assigned according to the activities of the department in which s/he works.
